Interesting Facts
This version grows big and bushy. Blooms more profusely as temperatures reach 100 degrees. Is larval host plant of the Painted Lady butterfly. Black berries are enjoyed by cardinals and other native birds (although they are poisonous to other animals and humans). Interestingly, this plant's flowers "communicate" with pollinators. Flowers that have already been pollinated fade, while fresh flowers are a more vibrant shade. This helps guide pollinators like bees, butterflies and hummingbirds to flowers with the most nectar, all the while helping the plant reproduce itself.
